«*'’JIiItIJHS GOVERNING BODYIt’s apparent that women run the student activity at the JHS this term for they have an all-girl student council. Pam Brooks, Carol Bessa, Cindy Harm and Pat Brown. Two weeks ago, the group attended a State meeting for Student Councils at Green Lake,Wisconsin.One of the principal speakers at the convention was Marilyn Van Debur. She is a former Miss America who now speaks to youth groups under the sponsorship of United Air Lines. Her thesis was that success is not so much a matter of talent and natural ability as a matter of work. She said, “Set a definite goal to be accomplished in a definite period of time.'*A resolution was passed at this State conclave endorsing theYoung World Development Hunger Marches.One of the speakers explained the purpose of a Student Council in a school: provide students with training in parliamentary procedure, representative government and leadership. It was also suggested that a good council tould serve as a bridge between faculty and students, a service organization and a social group.In addition to a Council at the JHS, a similar organizationexists and is active at the RHS.
