Z. Bishop, who was then doing development work in the Valley, went to California, and asked for the names of the two best architects in the state. One of the names given him was that of Birger A. Elwing. The result of his visit was that Mr. Elwing moved to the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, doing architectural work for a short time for Mr. Bisohp. and later independently.He formed the firm of Elwing lt;fe Mulhausen. and for several years this firm did a large part of thearchitectural work in the Valley, drawing plans for many of the school buildings in this section, and doing much to introduce Spanish style architecture to the section.The last big job on which tJne two men were architects was ajM present Rio Grande Valley Life building in Harlingen.
