MACKZUM, Republican nominee for member of theBoard of Control, was born In thisfather was thecity in 1841. His first German-American appointed on thepolice force in Cincinnati. When 8 yearsof age his family moved to St. Bernard,and Mr. Mackzum has resided there eversince. While an apprentice in the employ of A. S. Butterfield, then a harnessmaker, Mr. Mack-sum heard of Lincoln’s first call for volunteers to crush the rebellion. He was one of the first to answer and enlisted in the Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged after having served with the famous Guthrie Grays for more than three *. ... years, participating in some of the most notable battles of the Rebellion.
