StAugustine MarksConfirmation, BlessingThe largest class in St. Augustine parish history was confirmed and the new rectory and school addition were blessed in ‘ceremonies conducted Sunday by Bishop Edward J. Fitzgerald, head of the Winona diocese.The confirmation class of .320 was the largest over confirmed by Bishop Fitzgerald and was one of the largest ever confirmed inthe diocese. jThe ceremonies opened at 3 p. m. with the confirmation which was followed by the blessing of the school and the rectory, rectory. iIN HIS MESSAGE to theyoung people. Bishop Fitzgerald cited the need for a militant Christian spirit in the fight against the evils of today.Taking part in the ceremonies were Right Rev. Msgr. D. Bernard Kerrigan and Fr. Edward Mountain.ALSO PARTICIPATING wasan honor guard of fourth degree j Knights of Columbus including Knights from Austin. Mayfield,Wells, Minnesota Lake and Easton.The $400,000 building program. which included remodeling of the old school, increased the student capacity from 250 to 400.It raised the number of classrooms from nine to 17 and included a new 83 x 103-foot gym-nacisum-auditorium. The oid gymnasium was converted into 12 classrooms.The new rectory, bir't entirely of brick, replaces a orick veneer structure, which was torn dowm. It includes two-room suites and an office for each of four parish priests, plus community living quarters including a diningroom, recreation room and livingroom.
