Isn't it about time for the greenbacks to begin rolling in from those investments in eucalyptus companies made some dozen or fifteen years ago?Didn’t that smooth individual, with his pencil and convincing tongue* sit down and figure out how you were bound to make a bunch of money?The truth has percolated. It has gone deep into a good many minds, to say nothing of a good many pocket-books. The truth is that eucalyptus growing as a business proposition is what might be described as a fake and a delusion. It is a losing game.If the land is good, it is more valuable for other purposes. If it is unfit for other purposes, eucalyptus won’t do much on it.It costs more money to get rid of eucalyptus than he wood will sell for.Just recently near Santa Ana ranchers have paid as high as $22.50 a cord in order to get rid of eucalyptus trees they did not want, and the wood sells for $16 a cord.It has cost from $60 to $100 an acre to clear land of eucalyptus; that is, from $60 to $100 more than the wood brought.Some years ago, the sale of euca-* —----------lyptus company stock was a payingthing. That is, it paid the promoters. Investors were told that the federal government had tried ;BIDDIES 10 HIEout eucalyptus growing, and figures! were quoted in a large and convincing way, but those investors who put their money into eucalyptus stork long since gave up all hope of) getting any return.Eucalyptus growinf is another | burs ted bubble.It is a beautiful tree.
