Golden anniversary for Eastman E. ChandlersMr. and Mrs. Eastman E. Chandler of Altadena, Calif., formerly of Massillon, will celebrate their golden weddinganniversary Saturday with a reception from 4-7 p.m. in the residence of their daughter, Mrs. Betty R. Ward, 4444 Risinghill rd, Altadena,given by Mrs. Ward andthe Chandlers’ other daughter, Alice B. Chandler. Mr. and Mrs. Chandler moved to California two years ago.THE FORMER Leona Butler of Belpre and Chandler, who was born on a farm near Lowell, Ohio, were married in 1926. They have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Chandler was employed by Massillon Steel Casting for 27 years, retiring in March 1968. He is a past president of the Massillon Urban League and was a recipient of the National Urban League award for work in the field of labor and management relations.While in Massillon he was amember of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, Executive Board of Buckeye Council of Boy Scouts of America, Massillon Boys’ Club and Board of Trustees of Massillon City Hospital.Mrs. Chandler was very active in civic and church activities during her years in Massillon. She is a past president of the Massillon YWCA and the Church Women United and served on boards of the former Red Feather Agency (now United Way) and the Urban League.Mr. and Mrs. Chandler were bolli active in Bethel AME Church activities.MR. CHANDLER. . . residing in CaliforniaRepublican women hear candidatesMembers of the Massillon Area Republican Women’s Club viewed the new voting device to be used in the November election, Thursday at a luncheon meeting in the Venice Spaghetti House. Mrs. Betty Miller explained how the new voting system works.There were 25 members and six guests in attendance. Guests were Harold D. Thomas, candidate for county recorder in the November election; Eugene C. Suciu, candidate for clerk of courts; Richard F. Maier, candidate for state representative; Mrs. Helen Garofalo, Mrs. W. C. Williams and Mrs. Richard McGuire.Each candidate spoke briefly.MRS. SALLY GRIM, president, conducted the business session when thefollowing members were appointed to the Nominating Committee: Mrs. Phyllis Conger, chairman, Mrs. Betty Smith and Mrs. Lorraine Rinier.Miss Jane Murray andMrs. Betty Smith reported on the state federation conference held Oct. 7 and 8 in Columbus..
