Mr. and Mrs. Davis ObserveGolden Wedding AnniversaryMr. and Mrs. W. P. Davis celebrated their Golden Wedding: anniversary Sunday, October 14, at their home in Moravia with over one hundred fifty relatives and friends at the dinner and open house. A family dinner was served at noon and the tuvkey that was served was a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Forrest PottB of Gilliam, Mo. •Eleven persons were present for the day who attended the wedding 60 years ago. They were Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Davis, Mr. Fred Buck-master, Mrs. Carrie Turner, H. R. Gilliland, Mrs. Nina Newman, Bertha Potts, Ora Potts, Eugenia Potts, Mrs. F. A, Thompson and Mies Lucy Dodge who made the wedding dress and was bridesmaid. Other dinner guests were the couples two children, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davis and Helen, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mason and Richard. Also Mr. and Mrs. Horton Potts, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Eads of Cullison, Kans., Miss Miriarr. G. Eads of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Potta and Richard, Robert and Martha, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Turner, Aileen and Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Davis and Janet and Jimmy of Hartford, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thompson, Mr. and Mrs, F. A. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. W. U. Wilson, Bill, Bob and Jack of Blakesburg, Mrs. H. R. Gilliland, Mrs. C. H. Gilliland, Herby and Marion of Albia, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stansberry of Albia, Mr. and Mrs. Tunis VanZante and Ropert of Eddyville, and Rev. G. M. Talbott.Afternoon guests were greeted at the reception by Mr. and Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. Troy Adams, who modeled the bride's dress of 60 years ago, which was a fawn colored Henrietta fashioned in floor length basque style and trimmed in wide white lace and leg-o-mutton sleeves. Mrs. Davis attired in a blue 'printed jersey rayon and wore a corsage.The homo was cheery with many lovely bouquets of flowers and the gifts of display. The coffee table, spread with a lace cover, was beautiful with tho huge tri-tiered wedding cake, baked by Allen Mason of Ottumwa, and iced in white with showers of golden buds and white roses and topped with a miniature bride and bridegroom and golden candles in seven branch candlebra and vases of yellow roses.Mrs. Anna Potta and Miss Lucy Dodge presided at tho coffee table and Mrs. Ralph Davis cut and served the wedding cake.Anniversary gifts, radio table and a dozen yellow roses from the children; yellow candles from the grandchildren, Helen Davis and Richard Mason; yellow wool blanket from Mr. and Mrs. R. I. Davis were married October 14, 1895, at the homo of the bride’s parents, Hon. and Mrs. Ashbury Potts, five miles west of Moravia. The Rev. Franklin E. Brooke, pastor of the United Brethren church read the ceremony in the presence of a large crowd of relatives.The happy couple, 23 and 21 h«years old, set up housekeeping on a part of the farm owned py hisparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Davis, northeast of Moravia, but in 1899 they bought a farm five miles west and one half mile north of town and for 38 years resided on this farm which they still own. In 1937 they retired to their present home in Moravia.Both Mr. and Mrs. Davis are long time members of the United Brethren church. Mr. Davis is a trustee of the church and Mrs. Davis is an active member of the missionary society and ladies aid.Mr. Davis was assessor for eight years in Franklin township, Monroe county, and served as township trustee for many years. II class attended the American Royal Livestock Show held in Kansas City, Missouri. The group was sponsored by their instructor, M. H. Elson.The trip was highlighted by the livestock show as the class was interested in the judging for the vocational grand champions and finally the grand champions of the entire show. They were present to see the auction of the grand champions. In the sheep division $6.50 a pound was paid for the top animal. The best hog, a Duroc, was auctioned at $1.50 a pound and the grand champion calf won by a Hereford, sold for $2.25 a pound.Besides seeing the Royal tne group spent several hours walking over the stock yards.
