Its original owner saw a bright future in serving travelers on what was then a country road.*and opened a hamburger stand and gas station. His pumps are still in the ground out back behind Far\wa\ Joe's.But nobody not rich quick here, and the place changed hands a couple of times be fore its present owner. John Sehober. took over in March of 1959 B that time pilots apd other personnel from Midway just 2o minutes awav had discovered thewcountry cabin with good home cooking The airline crowd christened it Far Awav Joe’s.*SCHOBER RETAINEDboth the name and the rustic log cabin. “I kinda like the western atmosphere.' he says. •‘It's cozy Enlarging the place four years ago for expanded seating of 120. Sehober kept the original structure intact and created additions similar to it.The new section repeats the wood-beamed and pegged ceiling of the old cabin.
