Mr. and Mrs. Royal DeSales McKenzieMrMrs. McKenzie Celebrate Golden Weddins AnniversaryMr. and Mrs. Royal DeSales McKenzie, Meyersdale, Pa., were honored recently on the occasion of their 50th weddinganniversary. The surprise celebration took place at the Eastern Garrett County Fire Hall, Finzel, and was hosted by their children and grandchildren.The couple was married Sept. 10, 1938, in Cumberland. The Rev. Webb was the officiating clergyman and the late L.F. Bittner served as the only attendant.Mrs. McKenzie, the former Grace Berldine Baker, is the daughter of the late Daniel and Eleanora (Brown) Baker, Meyersdale. Mr. McKenzie is the son of the late George and Ellen (Lowery) McKenzie, also of Meyersdale. He is retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation BrickPlant, Zihlman.Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie are the parents of seven children: Hazel Marie McKenzie,rostburg; Elbert Junior McKenzie, Salisbury, Pa.; Delbert DeSales McKenzie, Boynton, Pa.; Donald Eugene McKenzie and Ray Harold McKenzie, both of Berlin, Pa.;Carl Lee McKenzie, Meyersdale; and George Daniel McKenzie, Frostburg, deceased. They also have nine grandchildren, Carolee Marie and Kerry Eugene McKenzie, Frostburg; Lori Jean and Randy Eugene McKenzie, Berlin; Michael Shawn McKenzie, Boynton; Tracy Lynn and Amanda Marie McKenzie, Meyersdale; and Toshia Lea and Justin Daniel McKenzie, Salisbury.The couple was presented with a white rose and orchid corsage and a white rose boutonniere by their daughter. A toast was given by their son, Ray McKenzie.A pink, white and gold color scheme was used in the decorations. The table favors and floral arrangements were made by Hazel McKenzie, daughter of the couple. The three-tier cake was baked by Maxine Squires and featured pink roses and a golden “50” emblem. The cake was cut by Mary Jean Kerns and Phyllis Hetrick and served by Tracey Lynn and Toshia Lea McKenzie, granddaughters, and Jennifer Friend. The couple’s children and grandchildren were in charge of the arrangements. The food was prepared by their daughter and son-in-law, assisted by Carolee McKenzie, granddaughter, Mary Jane and Rich Kerns, Phyllis Hetrick, Sandy Fils-inger and Jane Shumaker. Mary Jane Kerns and Phyllis Hetrick served the food, Sandy Filsinger served the punch and Jane Shumaker served thecoffee. Music was provided byTriple Play. Karen Skidmore was photographer and Kevin Keating videotaped the affair.The couple was the recipient of numerous gifts and cards, including a letter of congratulations from President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.Approximately 200 friends and relatives attended the reception. Out of town guests were from Lewisburg, Salisbury, Boynton, Meyersdale, Berlin, Friedens, Somerset and Garrett, Pa; and Frostburg.
