NovAtel nets contractTORONTO (CP) — NovAtel Communications Ltd. of Calgary said Monday it has received a $16-million contract to provide Cantel Cellular Communications Group Inc. of Montreal with two cellular radio-telephone systems to be installed in Toronto and Montreal.The contract, over two years, is the second one awarded to NovAtel by Cantel, the natonal cellular radio provider selected last December by the federal Department of Communications to receive licences to serve 23 Canadian cities.Cellular radio will allow subscribers to use portable telephones that send and receive radio signals to or from nearby cell sites, which are hooked up to the local telephone system.Cantel plans to begin service simultaneously in Toronto and Montreal next July. The company awarded NovAtel a $7-million contract in July for the Vancouver cellular system.
