Birklandsnote 60thanniversaryMr. and Mrs. Torger Birkeland celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary lastTuesday at their home in Big Timber. The day was spent visiting w'ith friends and relatives.Susanna Norman and Torger Birkeland were married in Big Timber at the home of Henry Woolen on Oct. 8, 1914.They homesteaded on Cottonwood Creek for several years and moved to Big Timber in 1940.Mr. Birkeland was born inBirkeland, Norway. He cameto the United States in 1910.Mrs. Birkeland is a native of Sweet Grass County.The Birkelands , are theparents of seven children— Trygve, Josephine Tengesdal, Taletta Stuber and Maybelle Satre, Big Timber; Hilda Thompson, and Oson, Livingston. Emil, a former resident of Livingston, died Oct. 1973.Another son, Jonas* was killed in a runaway horse accident at the age of 6.They also have 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
