Couple hMarried IMr. and Mts. Talmage L. Watkins of Cedar Grove, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary recently. To mark the apecia 1 milestone an open house was held at the Watkins’ home from 2 to 8 p.m. on September 30. Between two and three hundred friends __ id relatives dropped in to congratulate the couple, bringing gifts and flowers.A thre+tiered wedding cake, artistically decorated, was made for te occasion by Mr. Watkins' sis-ar, Mrs. Marion Howes, who also *rved the cake at the party. At the refreshment table were . onch and coffee. Those pouring were Mrs. Luther Howard, Lay-tonsville; Mrs. Norman Ehrlich,. Irs. Herbert Watkins, Mrs. Philip Watkins, Mrs. Charles Lee Watkins, Mrs. Grayson Burnell, all f Oelar Grove; Mrs. Aubrey Mul-lineaux, sister of Mrs. Watkins, Irs. William H Beall, and Mrs. William Pop, all of Damascus; and Mrs. Ralph Walker of Gaithersburg.Nine-year-old Carol Lee Watkins, youngest granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Watkins, was in charge of guest-book registrations. Presiding at the gift table were Misses Joan Watkins, Jana Alice Watkins, Donna Duvall, Myrtle Duvall; and Mrs. Mary Jo Mayer.For their fifty years of married life the Watkinses have lived in Cedar Grove in the same house. It is the house in which Mr. Watkins was born, and the only house he has ever lived in. Hie parents were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lee Watkins Sr., now deceased. Mrs. Watkins, the former Myrtle Burns, came from Purdum in the Damascus area, the daughter of the late Edward Bums and Mrs. Gertrude Burns, who still lives in Damascus, and is exceedingly active. She was among the guests at the festivities.Mr. Watkins is a retired dairy farmer. Through the years he has also been active in farm loan work. He was for 20 years the sec-retary-treasurer of the Federal Land Bank of Baltimore, and is still a representative of the Pru-dental Equitable Life Insurance Co. He is an active member of the Pioneer Coon Hunters Club. Both Mr. and Mrs. Watkins are members of the Upper Seneca Baptist titurch in Cedar Grove, and Mrs. Watkins was, until a few years ago, active in the Women's Missionary Union of the church, and of the community Homemakers Club.Mr. and Mrs. Watkins are the parents of three children: Charles Edward Watkins. Mrs. Wilson Duvall, and Royce T. Watkins. The sons both live in Cedar Grove, and the daughter, the former Gertrude Watkins, lives in Woodfield. There sre seven grandchildren an done great-grandchild. The latter is ten-month-old John Tal-madge Mayer.Guests coming to the open house from outside the immediate Cedar Grove area included Mr. and Mrs. 0. R. Laney of Mifflinburg, Pa. ; Mrs. Thelma Harris, of York, Pa.; Mrs. Laura Watkins of Baltimore; Mrs. G. 0. Hendrickson Sr. and Mrs. 0.
