Mrs. Eleanor Combs, who makes : her home with her son, ex-County ! Commissioner and Mrs. Wiley Gam-bill, southeast of the city, celebrated her ninety-ninth birthday anniversary, Sunday, October 11. The event j was celebrated by a great gathering j of friends and relatives, who brought j well-tilled baskets and enjoyed the-| occasion to the utmost. j! The affair was a complete surprise'J Mrs. Mrs. Combs, who knew nothing of the plans. Mrs. Combs is in good dealtli and entered into the enjoy, ments of the occasion. She received many nice presents as tokens of affection from friends and relatives.Mrs. Combs was born in Virginia. Her maiden name was McGrew. The ; family moved first to Salem, Indiana,, and from there to Greene county, i !about 1828. She was married in' i 1S29 to Morgan Gambill. They mov-j led to Cass township, Sullivan county,: where they lived until the time of i Mr. Gam bill’s death in 1827. This •. union was blessed with seven children, of whom four are living: Mrs.? 4Lucinda Walters, Levi Gambill, Wiley Gambill and Morgan Gambill. !Mrs. Combs was afterwards mar-j ried to William Combs and by this I union bore three children, of whom j one, Mrs. Ella Mason, is living. Mr.■ Combs died about thirty years ago | and Mrs. Combs continued to keep j house until two years ago when she ; broke up housekeeping and came to I Sullivan to make her home with her f son, Wiley Gambill.
