Local couple honored on65th wedding anniversaryMr. and Mrs. Charles Lusk of Portage la Prairie celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 3 at a come and go tea and coffee party held in their honor at the Elks Hall.About 150 friends, neighbours and relatives called to express their best wishes.Mr. and Mrs. Lusk have lived in the Portage area for more than 60 years.Mr. Lusk was born near Port Hope, Ont. in 1885. He came west to Wawanesa. Man. at a very early age.He later moved to Winnipeg where he was married in 1911 to Mrs. Lusk, the former Easter Iverson who was bom in Hull. P.Q. in 1891.Mrs. Lusk came to Winnipegin 1909. The couple moved to a farm in the Overhill district in 1915, where they lived until 1975 when they moved to Portage.Mr. and Mrs. Lusk have three children: Walter of Penticton, B.C.,; Mrs. Harold (Mildred) Smith of Portage;and Mrs. Jack (Muriel) Mclnnis of Winnipeg. They have nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.Four great-granddaughtersWendy Wilson, Carey Lusk, Maria Lusk and Leanne Smith were in charge of the guest book.Mrs. Lillian V. Couling of Winnipeg, a sister of Mr. Lusk, was at the celebration, as well as at the wedding 65 years ago.Mrs. Hazel McKaughlan of Petersfield, a sister of Mrs. Lusk was also present.The family entertained their parents at a dinner held at the Portage Hotel following the party, where Jack Mclnnis proposed the toast. Mr. Lusk responded and Mrs. Walter Lusk gave the grace.Mr. and Mrs. Lusk received many messages and cards. Some of the messages were from the Queen Elizabeth 11, the Hon. Pierre Trudeau, the Hon. F.L. Jobin, Joe Clark, Ed Broadbent, the Hon. Ed Schreyer, Sterling Lyon, Peter Masniuk, Gordon Johnston, Charles Huband and Her Worship Mayor Karen Devine.Hartford and Currie newsDinner guests with Mrs. Mary McDougal on Thanksgiving Sunday were Neil and Lillian, Allan and Marina, Don and Marion and their families. Mrs. Sadie Stewart of Portage was an overnight visitor on Wednesday.Mr. and Mrs. CharlieFraser, of Fort Frances, Ont., were Friday overnight guests with Roy and Enid Thompson,enroute to a holiday in B.C. Sunday supper guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Upward, of Portage. Art Thompson and Jason spent the weekend at the farm.well (with help from Bill Bodie) and got the potatoes dug, all in one day. Ron, Maloney and children, of Oakville, were recent visitors with the Dicksons.Thanksgiving weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pilkington were Stan and Lynn Ross, Sandra and Jim, of Winnipeg.Congratulations to Gordon and Pat Pilkington upon the birth of a baby daughter on Thanksgiving day.Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lamont were guests of the Feddersen - Stark wedding on Saturday in Portage. Don andHounsome have moved to their new home, south of Portage on the airport road. We wish them happiness in their new surroundings.Mr. and Mrs. Con. Roy and all the family enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Don and Linda Roy in Edwin on Sunday.We welcome Wes McDonald back to the Currie district.
