Their rather **’*■ striking music also has roots in the beat world of 1950s New York, with definite traces of Lou Reed in his Velvet Underground days. The tour starts Oct. 21 in Germany, and should be one of the more interesting shows to hit town.Camel, a British rock band with its origins in the days of acidrock, is on the road in Germany. The band has not broken up, say promoters, vicious rumors notwithstanding. There are two new keyboard players, formerly of Caravan, who replace an ex-Camel who left the group recently.©The Moody Blues havemade their first album in years •* *• and are back on the road plugging it with most of the band intact — keyboardist Mike Pinder prefers his meditations at home to the rigors of the road and has been replaced at least temporarily by Patrick Moraz, formerly of Yes. That show opens Oct. 19 in Germany.9 ® ®Aussie rockers AC/DC providea touch of lunacy to the rock scene in this month. The band has hit with a single (“Whole Lotta Rosie”) this year and sale are climbing on their recent albums Let There Be Rock and Power Age. Band includes Angus Young on lead guitar, Bon Scott on vocals, Malcolm Young on guitar, Cliff Williams on basss and drummer Phil Rudd. Dutch AC/DC fans should note that their Oct. 22 Amsterdam show starts at 4 p.m.Glider, a five-member disco/variety group from Wisconsin, is scheduled to start a 42-day USO tour of military bases Germany, Belgium, Italy “and other countries” Oct. 19. Includes a disco medley, a country medley, plus other popular music.Ray Charles has one of thebest shows around — he returns •* ’* to Germany Sunday for a series of dates that, will probably sell out quickly. Charles in concert covers an aston-ishig range of material — everything from a nostalgic “Georgia On My Mind’’ to raw, high-energy city blues.® ® ©MaMa Concerts in Frankfurtreleased the following statement early this week: “Rock superstar Rod Stewart will not be touring Germany this autumn. After some dates had already been altered and others post-, poned, the management now announced the cancellation of the changed tour schedule from Oct. 30 to Nov. 16. Manager Billy Gaff said that Rod is currently in Los Angeles finishing the recording of his forthcoming album. The recording was originally planned to be finished by late September. Because of his touring commitments in the rest of Europe and Britain before Christmas, and the Far East and USA in the new year it will be impossible to reschedule the German and Swiss section of the tour. The promoters as well as the record company tried to convince the artist to stick to the touring schedule, but in vain. Telexes to London and Los Angeles, referring to the signed contract, the advance payment and some 60,000 tickets sold in advance in Germany remained without success. MaMa concerts thoroughly regrets this developement. Tickets that have been bought by the public in Saar-briieken, Mlinster, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Essen, Hamburg, DUsseidorf, Stuttgart, NUrnberg, Munich, Dortmund and Cologne are being taken back by the box offices from Monday morning.”The Crusaders play five datesin Germany on their European tour which started Oct. 11. Founded in the ’50s by four students in Texas, the Crusaders predated the current jazz-rock fusion sound by 15 years with their mix of funk, blues accordian and jazz improvisation. Two members remain from the early days: Wilton Felder and “Stix” Hooper — they have taken the band into the ’70s as one of America’s top jazz-rock fusion groups.Each week “Coming At t i act ions’* highlights upcoming live entertainment in Europe. Ougenweide is a north German folk band which digs into Middle- and Old High German texts for its inspiration, coming up with everything from wholly acoustic copies to rock-laced revisions of the older styles — sort of a German Steeleye Span. Celtic harpist Stivell — the son of a Breton master harpmaker — has also included both traditional harp music and modernized folk-rock in past shows. He also is known for onstage polemics calling for an independent Brittany. Late add: Stivell’s Nov. 2 gig has been changed from Aachen to the Ludwigs-hafen Eberthalle.Klaus Schulze, former keyboardist for Klaus Doldinger’s Passport — and whose father wrote “Lily Marlene” (a German song popular in World War I) — started a German tour Oct. 1. Schulze is one of the better German classically-trained piano players to go looking for fame and fortune in a bank of synthesisers and a rock beat. With 10 years as professional musician, 10 solo albums and 10 tours behind him (his new album is called ”X.”), he says the synthesiser is “a higher form of music, in which thesis and antithesis constantly strive against one another.” His influences, he says, are Friedrich Nietsche, Georg Trakl, Frank Herbert, Friede-mann Bach and Ludwig II of Bavaria.Random nolo/By FRED SCHRUERSPolitics of Love: Edmund G. Brown, 73-year-old father of California Gov. Jerry Brown, warmed up the populace for his son’s re-election campaign by telling the San Francisco Examiner that he wishes Jerry would get married. “I have seen that Ronstadt girl at the house with him on various occasions,” said (the elder) Brown, himself a former governor of California. “Bernice (his wife) and I would approve of her as a daughter-in-law.”But, Brown hastened to add, “I haven’t the slightest idea of whether either of them has an intention in that direction.” Probably not, since last time we checked, Ronstadt was harmonizing with sax player David Sanborn.All three Bee Gees, plus younger brother Andy Gibb (alas, just divorced from his wife Kim), attended what was described as a “naked pool party” after the Miami wedding of Bee Gees’ co-producer Albhy Galuten and Nancy Lyons, his business manager.George Harrison, who recently had a son, Dhani, byOlivia Arrias, married her in September, while Stephen Stills, who has filed for divorce from Veronique Sanson after five years of marriage, now retains custody of their 4-year-old son. And David Johansen’s ex, Cyrinda Foxe, was hitched to Aerosmith’s Steve Tyler in New Hampshire and headed out with the band on a month-long tour in support of their live “Bootleg.”Martin Mull was ushered into matrimony with Sandra Baker by a troika that included a minister, a priest and a rabbi. Tom Waits, who sang “Better Off Without a Wife” to a Malibu gathering that included Chevy Chase, Rob Reiner and Norman Lear, observed the lineup of holy men and said, “This’ll never hold up in court. He doesn’t have a thing to worry about.” Mull then set off on his honeymoon— a 40-city tour.Richard Pryor is still married, but he recently reported to superior court in Van Nuys, where he was ordered to donate his services for 10 benefit performances for a worthy cause or face four months in jail for the misdemeanor offense committed last January, of ramming his car into another vehicle driven by two of his wife’s friends. Pryor was told to seek psychiatric care and to pay restitution to Edna Solomon and Beverly Clayburgh. Charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon were dismissed for lack of evidence, but Pryor was ordered not to possess guns or other deadly weapons during his probation period.Finally, Bob Dylan’s ex-wife Sara — who was given custody of the couple’s four children — paid a fine of $125 and is on probation for six months after pleading guilty in a Malibu court to disrupting her children’s classroom last year during divorce proceedings when she and three private detectives went into the local elementary school to take away Jesse, 11, Anne, 10, Samuel, 9 and Jakob, 6.A mob of 5,000 kicking, fighting fans besieged the Leicester Square theater where the London premiere of Grease was being held and so upset John Travolta that he paced the rear of the theater and decided against attending the party afterward. The film was widely panned by English critics . . . Ron Alexenburg’s new custom label on MCA, Infinity, starts off with a six-artist roster that includes Dobie Gray, Hot Chocolate and Orleans (the latter without John Hall, whose second solo album will be on ARC-Columbia) . .. Ralph Bashki, animator of Fritz the Cat and Iieairy Traffic, will bring out Lord of the Rings on Nov. 15 . . . Peter Asher will produce Bonnie Raitt’s next LP . . . “The World As the Divine Miss M Perceives It” will be the title of a to-be-published diary that Bette Midler will keep on an upcoming tour of Europe and Australia that ends in her hometown of Honolulu.James Taylor, his left hand still on the mend from a co-conut-cutting accident early this year, won’t record till early next year .. . Mick Jagger spooked a midnight burglar from his Hollywood home recently and police were seeking a former Stones employee they suspected as the thief. He made off with $3,000 in cash and $10,000 in jewelry .. . Bill Graham has announced the closing of San Francisco’s Winterland.
