'Following: their marriage they have lived, labored, and shared each others’ joys and sorrows on the present farm for 50 years.The honored couple are truly pioneers. Many an interesting event of real happenings of both hardship and happiness are often related by them and these events are especially interesting to their grandchildren, as there is a vast contrast in the mode of living since that pioneer day 50 years ago.Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt are the parents of twelve children —* eight boys and four girls —• all of whom are living within a radius of ten miles from the old home. Mrs. Carl Zwanziger (nee Ida Schmidt), Strawberry Point, Iowa; Mrs. Win. No-durft (nee Anna Schmidt), Edge-wood, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Nus (nee Mary Schmidt), Ernest A. Schmidt, August Schmidt, Arlington, Iowa; Louie J. Schmidt, Mike Schmidt,_A1-fred Schmidt, Strawberry Point, Iowa; Mrs. Paul Schuchman (riee Hilda Schmidt, Henry, Oscar, and Carl, at home.There w ere 36 grandchildren. Helen Mae, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Nodurft, died of pneumonia at the age of one year. This is certainly a remarkable record of so large a family and only one death. There are also two great-grand children.Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt are quite active for thein age and enjoy fairly good health.Mrs. Schmidt takes special pride in her very beautiful flower garden from which she selected two bouquets, each of which won first prize at a recent flower show. This flowei garden can be seen and is greatly admired by the passing traffic on the public highway and Mrs. Schmidt has .received many compliments, on her fine floral culture. ***C A DU DIIDCAII
