Si Hoffman arid Geo. Eder, only living aiattendants of the bride and groom at rithe wedding ceremony on October 9, 1884, were among the dinner guests tl: other than the Schmidt children and | families. The other relatives at dinner- w ® were: John Eder, Henry Eder, Mr. is’ and Mrs. Mike Eder, Strawbewy PPoint, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. George DEder, Rock Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and oiMrs. Prank Larem, Mrs. Emma I(e Mauer, Mi's. Albert Eppler, Mrs. fiHelen Walker, Dubuque, Iowa. ■ ,' ^Among the beautiful wedding e cakes on the table was one a littlelarger and, if possible, lovelier, which was the) gift of their son Louie,' Jr.. and wife. Decorating the table were many lovely flowers received from loved ones. Mingled with these beautiful bouquets was one from Mrs. Schmidt’s own garden. •The waitresses were Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt’s granddaughters.At the reception during the afternoon and evening more than two hundred guests w ere received.Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt, assisted by Mrs. Hoffman and Geo. Eder, all wearing yellow • chrysanthemums, received the many guests. During the day ten of their guests at the wedding on October 9, 1884, called to pay 'their respects and recall events of that happy occasion. Mrs. Schmidt looked lovely in a grey printed crepe with white satin collar and cuffs, while the groom of so many years wore the necktie worn at his wedding.The bride displayed many of theirwedding gifts and a piece of her wedding gown.A memorable feature of the afternoon was a program of group singing. Scripture reading and sennon-ette by their pastor, Rev. Melchert of St. Sebald. church. The family history was read by Carl Zwanziger, a ■ letter of regret from Mrs. David Jones of Spencer, was also read, after which photos were taken.Mesdames Carl Zwanziger, Wm.* * •Nodurft, Frank. Nus, Ernie Schmidt, Mike Schmidt, Alfred Schmidt, August Schmidt, Paul Schuchman, Geo. Steward and Miss Lottie Andreae were the ladies who served the luncheon at the reception.Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt received many cards and letteys on this happy occasion, also many lovely flowers, gifts and a purse of money. These good people, are esteemed, honored and, highly respected pioneers who have the very best wishes of a multitude of friends for many more happy wedding anniversaries. The News extends congratulations t and best wishes for many years of health and happiness.tt.tns1:ffrsIcIIIIcXcfA brief history of Ludwig Schmidt and his wife Amalie, nee Eder, read at their Golden Wedding Anniversary.Ludwig Schmidt and Amalie Eder were married on October 9, 1884, at St. Sebald church with Augusta Hoffman, George Eder, Lena Eder and Gottlieb Schuchman as witnesses. Relatives and friends were also present. Rev. G. H. Fuehr officiated.Mr. Ludwig Schmidt was born in Eicha, Sacksen Wennngen, Germany, on October 10, 1858. There lie was baptized and went to school until he was 12 years of. age, when he emigrated to America with his mother his father having emigrated a year before to make a home for them at Taylorsville, Iowa. Here they resided one year and a half, after which they moved to their present homo known as the Seminary Hill Farm, in 1873. The same year ho was confirmed by Rev. List.• Mrs. Amalie Schmidt ivas born on November 15, 1865, : on what is known as the old Eder homestead, now occupied by Richard Homewood,(Continued on Page Four)
