Sift Death Of Inmate In Asylum ]Coldwater Home Is InvestigatedLANSING, Oct. 10 (AP)—State police detectives today began sifting through testimony given by Coldwater State Home and Training School employes in connection with injuries suffered a patient.Detectives Charles South worthand V. Caulk Ins were assigned io work with a legislative committee in checking into the incident.At the same time, the Stale Mental Health Commission launched its own probe in preparation for a joint meeting with the legislative committee headed by Rep, Harry J. Phillips (R-Port Huron.)Phillips, whose committee is investigating Michigan's mental hospital system, said he asked for stale police help in checking conflicting testimony on injuries to Joseph Kibiloski, 45, of Bronson.Kibiloski, a patient since Sept. 25, died two days ago. Thought suffering from three broken ribs and numerous cuts and bruises, an ; autopsy showed he died of uremia, a kidney ailment.Phillips contended Kibiloski had been manhandled and abused” by attendants. Charles F. Wngg, state mental health director, said his own inquiry showed no evidence of abuse.“The shock from his manhandling did aggravate the existing illness and contributed to his death,” Phillips said.I want brought to justice the people who did it,” he said.The Mental Health Commission and Phillips’ committee plan to question Dr. E. J. Rcnnell, superintendent at Coldwater.
