Jeremy Sokol, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sokol of 120-1 Lincoln Ave., has been an efficient and reliable Herald-Star carrier to 29 customers on Dennis Way, Sloane Street, Mile Mark Drive and Lincoln Avenue since January. His father, an uncle and two aunts were carriers of The Herald-Star for 12 years, according to Elizabeth Sokol, Jeremy’s grandmother. This young carrier and many others like him should receive a special thanks during National Newspaper Week, but a vote of appreciation could be extended each day for their efficient and reliable work in bringing the news to each customer’s door. (Herald-Star Staff Photo)Tradition Continues In Sokol FamilyTORONTO — Jeremy Sokol, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sokol of 1204 Lincoln Ave., is continuing a tradition that has been in the Sokol family for 12 years.He is a carrier of The Herald-Star, a job that his father; an uncle, Michael; and two aunts, Teresa and Mary, held for a period of 12 years in their youth.Jeremy added to the route when he took over nine months ago. He has even retained the former carrier, Joel Obertance, as a substitute.Having a strong desire to make a career as an investigative reporter, he is writing for the J.T. Kraffa Middle School newspaper and is the football announcer for the junior high football games.Jeremy has three first-place fishing trophies from the Toronto Rod and Gun competitions, learning his skill from his dad, who has outstanding fishing trophies also.Not to be overshadowed in the fishing category, his sister, Ashley, has won two trophies. She wanted to make it known that she plays the piano too.A younger brother, Justin, recently came in first in a punt, pass and kick contest.He has been an altar boy at St. Joseph’s Byzantine Catholic Church for four years and will advance to senior altar boy next year.Jeremy is in the seventh grade, is a member of the gifted class and has never missed having his name on the school honor roll.He played right field with the Hillyers, a team that finished first in the Toronto Little League this year. Reading and doing experiments with his chemistry set and microscope take up much of his time, making television and radio listening far down bn his list of favorites.Jeremy spends a portion of his route profits on fishing equipment, made the purchase of a VCR tape on fishing and saves some of his money.He feels that being a Herald-Star carrier has made him more responsible.Jeremy likes to explore and has written a report for the school paper on the caves at Mount Nebo. He also will write on an Indian burial ground.He helps his uncle, Pat Lamantia, care for German wire-hair dogs and attended a dog show in Cleveland recently and was quite impressed with the event.v_ y
