P Marsh, Gordon DavH, s, Harold Pinkelstein and Ivan M, i Bernkopf, of Wellsboro, were jj|* guests of Dr, Donald Guthrie, of the Robert Packer Hospital, of G Sayre, at dinner at the Iron Ket-tie Inn at Waverly, N. Y., last Tuesday evening. Over 130 at-s tended, including representatives of the General Sullivan Council, Boy Scouts and the Susquehanna Council, Girl Scouts, ol Tioga, Bradford and Sullivan counties.1_ Plans were completed for a fi-I’ nancial campaign to be started Oct. 21 and continuing until Oct. 29. The goal of the drive will be |43,000, to be used during the * year ending 1931. Part of the amount will be used to liquidate the debt on Camp Brule at Elk I Lake and the rest will be used for ’ financing future activities of the ' two organizations. J. D. Poster, r in charge of the campaign, an-nounced that a. prominent man 'living in this district has pledged $5,000 as the final amount in the campaign providing the $38,000 is raised. Several others, also have signified their intention of donating sums in excess of $1,000. At the end of the campaign a victory dinner will be given on Wednesday, Oct. 29.In -Jopening the meeting Dr. Guthrie thanked those in attend-x anee for the interest they had \ taken in the movement and then j expressed his views on the cam-’ paign.A plea was liiade by Scout George Buckpit, of Tioop I, Waverly, for the support of the movement and «n behalf of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts he expressed an appreciation for aid that is ^ being given. In commenting on Scout activities he announced that there are 600 Scouts attached to the Genera:! Sullivan Council, which means that one out of every eight of Scout age eligible to be members in this district are members, and that the Girl Scouts boast a membership of 400 assigned to 18 different troops.Leon B. Sbeddon, president of General Sulhvan Council, expressed his gratitude over the success of the meeting and the representative men and women who had accepted Dr. Guthrie’s invitation.Mrs. Cass Williams, of Waverly, gave a brief lesume of the activities of the Girl Scouts, stating that although the two organizations were different their methods were very much alike._ Community leaders from all sections of Tioga county will be the guests of Thomas A. Crichton, ol Wellsboro, at the Penn-Wells Hotel Monday evening, Oct. 13, to formulate plans and set up an organization for participation in the $43,000 campaign for maintenance of the Boy Scout andGirl Scout programs in Tioga, Bradford and Sullivan counties, Pa., and in Waverly, N. Y.f until 1932.Mr. Criehton has accepted the area chairmanship for this region, and his guests will include leaders who will work with him ir their several communities.
