Swenka exchanged vows on Oct. 4, 1942, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.The couple’s son is James A. Piersall and wife Monica of Cedar Rapids. They have three grandchildren. Matthew and wife Jill of Cedar Rapids, Valerie Herring and husband Mike of Minneapolis, and John of New York City; and a great-grandchild, Mattie of Cedar Rapids.
