Americans Bob Murphy and Gardner Dickinson, who set aYoung Bobby Cole of South Africa Shot a 68 for 2S8, which tied him with Bob Charles of New Zealand, who had a 71 Saturday, and Peter Butler of England, in with a 72.Billy Casper, the pre-tournament favorite, was never in it and wound up with a 293. He shot a 70, his best round of the tourney, Saturday.U.S.’ Open champion Lee Trevino was next, among the Americans, with a 75 for 296.Miller Baiter shot a 70 for 297. Bert Yancey, who had a 68 Friday, shot a 78 Saturday and finished at 298.Tom Weiskopf stood at 300— he- had a 76 Saturday—while Frank Beard stood at 315 with aclosing 72. ;It was his sixth tournament in Britain and “I wish they had this one more often.” Brewer's last victory was in the Alcan las year.BY DAVE LONG Staff Sports WriterMONTldELLO - Thei-cgans-port varsity dross country team made it 10 in a few here Saturday morning as it swept through a field of 16' teams for an easy Twin Lakes Invitational victory.Logansport captured six of the first seven places in the fourth annual event for a total of 17 points which was 106 points better than the second place Knox Redskins.JOE SMITH OF LOGANSPORT led the 112 runner pack around the Tippecanoe Country Club course and finished in 16:06—12 seconds ahead of Lo-gareport's John Ulery who passed through the final chute in 16:18.Jeff Berkshire of the Berries ended in the third position in 10:21. followed by Macona-quah’s Steve Holder, who broke off the Logansport domination in fourth place in 10:23.The Berries took the next positions, however, with Dee Moon ending in fifth in 10; 27 and John Layman in sixth in 30:28—his best time of the year.JOHN MATTSON of Logansport ended seventh in 10:28, but was out of the scoring for the Berries. Koleszar ended in the 14th position in 10:38. Following him for Twin Lakes were Dane Davis in 53rd; Randy Nace in 58th; Mike Ashton in 61st and Ron Krulik in 73rd.NEAL RUSH led the Frontier delegation through the finish chute in 20th position. He ended in 23rd place-. He was trailed by Jerry Locke in 81st; Jack Rife In 82nd; Dick Adams in 92nd and Mike Smith in 93rd.THE LOGANSPORT runner took the lead early over the wind-swept nippy course, and set a fast pace far ahead of the rest of the pack. The victory for Coach Fred Kinder’s marvels is their 10th in a row this season without a setback, and their 20th straight over two seasons,Kinder was presented the championship trophy following the race. The first 15 finishers were awarded medals and the 16th through 35 runners were awarded ribbons. Ribbons were also presented to the first five teams.The Berries are in for quite a workout this week as they are entered in two key meets. Tuesday the locals will host the annual CIC meet at LHS Stadium, and Thursday they will travel to Muncie for the important North Central Conference affair. Logansport finished second in the conference last year.Kewanna Runner Shatters RecordFULTON— Rod Hattery, Ke-wanna’s top cross country runner , shattered the Caston course record here Friday as he led Kewanna to a 25-33 win over the host Comets.Hattery shaved 19 seconds off the old mark when he hit the finish line in 9:31. The old mark of 9:50 was set Sept. 30th.Jim Briney of Kewanna finished second right on Hattery’s heels in 9:32 to also break the old mark.Jim Daguc of Caston finished third just six seconds behindBriney in 9:38 to also break the old record.Dague’s teammate, Jim Eaton finished the two mile event in fourth place in 10:1L Other Caston runners were Ron Hite who finished sixth in 10:26 and Miles Eikenberry, seventh in 10:34.Summary Hattery (K); Briney (K); Hague (C); ffentzel (K); Hite (C); Eikenberry (C); Warfield (K); Fox lt;K); Ag-new (K).
