Between 150 and 250 hairdressers from all parts of the state were signing in as the fifth annual convention of Arizona Cosmotolngists Association opened at the Valley Ho Hotel. Lorna Peterson, president of the Scottsdale unit, which is host to the convention, acted as head of thecommittee.Mrs., Hester Slocum, eo* owner with her husband of the John Slocum Co., real essestate and insurance business, was named Scottsdale’s business woman of the year by the Scottsdale Business and Professional Woman’s Club. Judging for the annual awards is on the basis of a woman’s accomplishments in her own Held and service to the community.Shelby Austin was installed as president of the Scottsdale Toastmasters Club at thp meeting in the Safari Hotel. Other officers: John Wouden-berg, educational vice-president Dan Cullen, administrative vice- president; Don Smith, secretary * treasurer, and Bob Gray, sergeant-at-arms,. ,Students from 13 states have been registered at Thunder* bird Academy, Seventh-DayAdventist School off N. Scottsdale Rd. Total enrollment was 180 according to Mra. R. 0. Stone, registrar. The institution conducts both high school, and elementary school classes.
