In 1830 Mr Hafcill made a public profession* of faith in Christy ami united with the Methodist Protestant Church of this city. Successively he hrfld the office of Clast loader, Trustee and 8tettrard, and once, at leaat, represented the Church in the annual Conference. But that which most eminently distinguished Mr H., was that he was a Christian inf the scriptural sense of that high appellation. He bcte hfs last illness with not only resignation to, but with acquiescence in, the will ot GodyamT died as he had lived, a truedeciple of Christ. As a member of civil society, ho was beloved by all. Wo* believe he had not air enemy in the world. Wc are informed 6/liia surviving bretheren that Mr H. had been a Member of tho Anciont Order of Free-Mosons for thirty-seven years, aud1 hud received all the dogrecs of the Ancient Craft, including the Order of High Priesthood and the orders of Chrietiiu Nlghtliood. Mr H. had been the High Priest of {Steubenville Union Chapter, for a period of twenty three years, and tho President of Steubenville Encampment for twelve years. In all of these high positions, we are informed that, he gave entire satisfaction.re-maininga worthy membor of those various bodies until his ^spirit returned to God who gave it. 14 Who, said a heathen philosopher, 4* would lament the death of ’ friend. If such be the view of a heathen, what should be the feeling of a Christian with the gospel in his hand, in which “lifo \ and immortality havo been brought to . light!
