WESBAY, OCTOBER 5, 1037CARROLL DAILY HERALD,'iAnother GroupOf 34 Century Member SketchesApplications Came SoFast Some Sketches Are DelayedMany members of the Three-Quarter Century Club have wondered why their life sketches have not appeared in the Daily Herald or the Times to date. The 'reason is that the applications have come in so fast that it has been impossible to get these sketches ready and printed in the face of regular daily duties. As fast as the work can de done, however, these sketches will appear, and the members are assured that all their applications have beenreceived and their names added to the rolls even though the public recognition is slow in appearing. Here are a few more of thesketches of members:AUGUST H. CLAUSSENAugust H. Claussen of Manning, a native, of Germany, was born Oct. 8, IS62. He is a carpenter by trade.Mr. ClaussenOn Oct. 11, 1889, he was married at Fremont, Neb., to Miss Cathrina Schlueter. Prior to his marriage Mr. Claussen lived in Chicago. He came to Iowa in 1883.Mr. and Mrs. Claussen came to Carroll county from Clinton county in 1902. They had six children, five of whom are living. A daughter. Lilly, died Oct. 17, 192 7. The five living children are: Mrs. Antonia Stapleton, Baltimore, Md.; Arthur Claussen, vVestpoint, Neb.; Mrs. Frances Spurling, Miles City, Mont.; Mrs. Florence Diels, Los Angeles, Calif., and Iris Claussen, Miles City, Mont.There were six children in Mr.Claussen’s father’s family, threeof whom are living. Additional to Mr. Claussen they are Mrs. Dora Stuedemann of Los Angeles and Mrs. T. H. Sievers of Arcadia.Mr. Claussen is a member of the Presbyterian church.FRANK W. PRUTERFrank W. Pruter of Manning, who is of German parentage, was born June 21, 1861. Mrs.Ed Molter died at the St. Anthony hospital in Carroll at the age of 46 and Gustav A. Pruter, who served in the U. S. army overseas in 1918, died in the Ed Hines hospital at Maywood, 111., at the age of 36 years.Julius W. Pruter of West Side, Frank F. Pruter of West Side and Emma H. Miller of Manning are the living children.Mr. Pruter, a farmer by occupation, has spent 62 years on the farm and 24 years in town. He belongs to the Hays township Sebuetzen Verein.He is one of a family 6f four children and he has two brothers living, John Pruter of Boardman, Ore., and William II. Pruter ofWest Side.SpPCivHENRY STOELKHenry Stoelk of Manning was born June 6, 1SG2, in Germany. There were six children- in his father's family, three of whom are now living—Henry, of Manning, William, of Arcadia, and Jurgen of Lensahu, Germany.BERNARD A. OSTERHOLTBernard A. Osterholt of Breda was born Oct. 8, 18 60, at Vasaka, Kreis, Bor ken, Westphalen, Germany. Three brothers, George, Mt. Carmel, la.; Victor, A then, Wis., and Anton, Borken, Germany, and one sister, Mrs. Joe Stork, Raras-Mr. Stoelk came to Iowa from dorf, Germany, survive with Mr.Germany in 1885. He was united in marriage to Dora Stuke at Ma-quoketa, Iowa, August 5. 18S7, and they resided at Elwood, Iowa, until 1890, when they came to Carroll county. Here they resided on a farm until 1920, when Mr. Stoelk left that occupation to go into a store in Manning where Mr. and Mrs. Stoelk now live.They have the following children: Will, Frank, Charles, Albert and Mrs. Ella Reemers of l Manning; Harry of Manilla and Lauren of Wall Lake.MRS. MARY ROSSMrs. Mary Ross of Manning was born Jan. 21, 1S59, in Provence, Romany, Germany. She came to Iowa from her home in GermanyMRS. JOSEPH BUSCHEOne of the oldest members of the Three Quarter Century club is Mrs. Joseph Busche of Breda, whoOsterholt.Mr. Osterholt came directly toCarroll county from Germany in 1889. On April 14, 1891, he was married to Elizabeth Steinkamp at Breda. Mrs. Osterholt passed away July 3, 1922. The Osterholts have one daughter, Joan.Mr. Osterholt lived for IS years on the farm and since then has followed the business of mason brick layer. He is a member of St. Bernard's Catholic church in Breda.JOSEPH NEESJoseph Nees was born in 1859 in Grosslkra, Germany, now the only one of a family of four children. He came to America in 1884 and to Carroll county in 1889. He was married to Wilhel-mina Kies in 189 5 at the Wheatland township church, and is the father of fourteen children, all living. They are: Carl Nees. Mt. Carmel, Mrs. A. J. Underberg, Carroll; Rudolph Nees, Mt. Carmel; Mrs. Emma Freese, Auburn; Mrs. Herman Henkinius, Maple River; Mrs. Frank Olberding, Breda; William Nees, Auburn; George Nees, Glidden; Sister M. Eloise, LaCrosse, Wis.; Frank, Leon and Leone Nees, Mt. On Feb. 19. 1880 she was is 89 years old. She was born Sept. married to Fred Ross at Maquo-!2S. 1848, in Holdorf. Germany.keia, Iowa. To this union were born nine children, three of whom died in infancy—Albert Ross, George Ross and Marie Ross.and was married in the place of i her birth to Joseph Naberhaus.Shortly after their marriage they came to Cincinnati, Ohio.Those living are: Fred Ross, Man-j an(1 from there to Iowa in 1870. ning, la.; August Ross, Manning; j jt was in 1S75 that they came toMrs. Chris Barten, Manning; Mrs. Paul Eorkowski, Manning; Mrs. Louis Jurgens, Audubon, la.; and Herman Ross, Mountain Lake, Minn.Mr. Ross died Oct. 21, 1907, and ten years later Mrs. Ross came to Carroll county from their home in Audubon county. Thirty-seven years of her life have been spent on the farm.Mrs. Ross has one surviving brother, William Witt, Gray, la., and a sister, Minnie Witt, Manning, la. There were eight children in her father’s family. Mrs. Ross is a member of the Lutheran faith..MRS. ANGELA BOECKMANMrs. Angela Boeckman of Breda was born in Dohran, Germany, June 26, 1860. In 1875 she came to Iowa from Germany. In 187 7 the family came to Carroll county. In 1879 she marriedAugust Naberhaus at Mt. Carmel. Mr. Naberhaus died August .31, 1S82. In May, 1883, she was married to Mowritz Boeckman at Breda, la. His death occurred in November, 1916.Seven of Mrs. Boeckman’s children are living. They are Mrs. Frank Nieland, Breda; Mrs. Theo. Schulte, Early, la.; Mrs. Sylvester Rotli, Fordyce, Neb.; Ben Boeckman, Breda; August Boeckman, Breda; Tony Boeckman, Wall Lake, la.; Mrs. A. A. Weinand, Fordyce, Neb. Three children died in infancy, one son, Joseph, at the age of two years, and a son, George Naberhaus, in August, 1919.Mrs. Boeckman is a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic church in Breda.Carroll county. Mr. Naberhaus' died in 1SS4 and about three years later Mrs. Naberhaus married Joseph Busche.With the exception of three years spent in Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Busche lived on the home place east of Breda, where Mrs. Eusche still makes her home with her son, Ben Naberhaus. Mr. Busche died May 16, 1914.Mrs. busche is a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church and the Christian Mothers’ Sodality.She has nine children living: Joe Naberhaus, Okarclie, Okla.; Henry Naberhaus, Breda; Ben Naberhaus, Breda; Mrs. HenryCARL WEITLCarl Weitl of Templeton was born in Vilshoven, Bavaria, Germany. on Jan. 5, 1857. He left Germany in 1883 and came to Iowa. On Feb. 15, 1887, he was married to Catherine Kress at Willey, la. Three of their ninechildren are deceaseu — Carl, Frank and Mary. Those surviving are Mrs. John Schuttes, Dedham; John, George, Charles, Anna and Madeline, ail of Templeton, la.Mrs. Weitl died on Jan. 9, 1923. Mr. Weitl’s occupation has beenMiss Beryl Witte, R. N., returned to her duties at the McCrary hospital in Lake City Monday evening after enjoying a ten-day vacation. With the exception of a few days in Omaha, she spent the time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. He is a memberof the Sacred Heart church at Templeton.OHARUES RETTEXMAIERCharles Rettenmaier, another Mt. Carmel applicant to the Three Quarter Century club, was born in Black Hawk county in 1862. I Coining to Carroll county in 1874, he was married here in 1887 to Katherine Maus, who died in 1928. Every member of the family of seven children of which Mr. Rettenmaier is a part still live— J. F. Rettenmaier and Miss Kate Rettenmaier, Dave RettenmaierLudwig, Carroll; Sister M. Leon- and Mrs. Elisabeth Giseing, Frankora, St. Angela Academy, Carroll; Sister M. Rufina, Coon Rapids; John Busche, Okarche, Okla.; Frank Busche, Marshfield, Wis., and George Busche, Carroll.Two daughters have passed away. Katheritie died in 1928 and Agnes when a small child.Mrs. Busche has two sisters living in Holdorf, Germany, Dena Kreinest. and Maria Haverkamp. They and Mrs. Busche are the survivors of a family of ten children.MRS. MARY ELIZABETH BUELTELMary Elisabeth Scbillmoeller was born April 21, 1858, at New Vienna, la. Of the six members of her family five are now living. They are: Rdv. J. H. Schillmoeller, Worthington, la.; Mr. Henry Scbillmoeller, Granville, la.; Rev. Schillmoeller, Halbur, la., and Mr. Herman Schillmoeller, Granville, la.In 1877, she married John Bueltel at Luxenberg, la., and in the same year they came to Carroll county. To them were born seven children, two of whom,John and Josephine, died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs.Anna Dominise, Templeton, la.; Joe Bueltel, Dedham, la.; Frank Bueltel, Manning, la.; Mrs. Elisabeth Dieter, Otoe, Neb., and Miss Catherine Bueltel, Templeton, la.Mrs. Bueltel is now living in Templeton where she is a member of the Catholic church.MRS. ELIZABETH FRIEDMAN GOETZINGERMrs. Elizabeth Goetzinger was born in Luxenberg. Dubuque county, Iowa, on March 8, 18 59. There on Feb. 3 0, 1880, she was married to Nick Goetzinger, and they came in that year to Carroll county. To them were born ten children, and of this number eight are living: Mrs. Henry Reilander, Templeton, la.; James Goetzinger, Defiance, la.; William Goetzinger, Raeville, Neb.; Anthony Goetzinger, Carroll, la.; Mrs. A1 Barie, Manning, la.; Frank Goetzinger, Templeton, la.; Nick Goetzinger, jr., Templeton, la., and Ben Goetzinger, Templeton, la. Four children are deceased: Elizabeth,Matthew, John and Peter.Mrs. Goetzinger now lives at Templeton, where she is a member of the Sacred Heart church.J. Retleninaier in Carroll, andMrs. Joe Reinhart at Wagner S. D.Mr. Rettenmaier is the father of eight living children, Joseph and Edward having died in infancy, Mrs. Nick Wittry having died in 1 922 and Mrs. Melvin Ki-leen having die'd in 193 5. The living children are: Mrs. F. J. Snyder, Mrs. J. W. Heisterkamp and Walter Rettenmaier of Carroll, Dr. A. J. Rettenmaier of Kansas City, Mo.; Dr. M. J. Rettenmaier of Omaha, Neb., W. M.
