Hampton surprised bytaking to the air in the final period and connected on almostevery throw.Parents’ night was observed in spite of the rain. Parents of each player were introduced' before the game. Game wasdelayed about 20 minutes before it was decided to play.Both Ford City and Hampton * bands remained in their buses and did not perform either before the game or at halftime.Hampton was first to score cn a 40-yard drive late in the first period. Dave Howell carried the ball five straight times and placed the ball on the five-yard line where Dennis Jones ran around right end for the score, with 1:48 remaining in the quarter. Lynn Hieber passed to Brad Dubbs for two points to make Uie score 8-0.Following the touchdown Hampton kicked off. Hudak took the ball on the 20 and returned it to the 42. Ford City drove 58 yards for atouchdown, the score coming in the second period. Russell and Lloyd Jack did most of the bail toting with Russell going over for the touchdown from the one-yard line with 9:38 remaining in the quarter. Lloyd Jack drove over for the two points but Ford City had a back in motion and the play was nullified. The score: Hampton 8, Ford City 6.Russell kicked off after the touchdown. After several plays Hieber tried a pass but it was intercepted by Jarrett Smith on the Hampton 25 and he returned it five yards to the 20.Marv Russell pounded the line for three plays to the eight-yard line; Jack went two yards, then Russell in two plays smashed across. Russell plunged over for the two points and the score was Ford City 14, Hampton 8 with 4:53 remaining in the half.Russell kicked off, the ball was fumbled and Pete Serene recovered for Ford City on the Hampton 38. Ford City could not turn the break into a touchdown and had to give up the ball on downs on the Hampton seven-yard line. During that drive Ford City was against Hampton and once was aided by a 15-yard penalty against Hampton, and once a gain of nine yards was made on a pass from Mike Lorence to Gary Altman.On first play after taking over, Hieber was tackled in the end zone by Jarrett Smith to give Ford City a two-point safety. This made the score 16 8.Hampton punted irom the 20 and Ford City started rolling toward the goal but reached the 20-vard line as the half ended.mRussell kicked off to open the second half. Hampton started a drive which ended when the ball was given up on downs to Ford City on the Sabers’ 23.Ford City had to punt. Lorence kicked to the Hampton28. Hampton drove to midfield where a fumble occurred and Chuck Wakefield recovered forFord City on the Hampton 47. With Russell and Jack carrying, the Forders drove to the 15-yard line as the third period ended. On first play of the fourth quarter, Russell scored. Russell tried to run for the point but failed and Ford City led 22-8.Russell kicked off. The ball was touched by a Hampton player and Tom T u 11 a i recovered on the Hampton 29. Ford City could not taka advantage of this break, as a 15-yard penalty was assessed them during the try for a touchdown. Ford City gave up on downs on the Hampton 28.Hampton then took to the air in spite of the slippery conditions. Six out of eight passeswere made and Hampton had a touchdown. The score came on a pass from Hieber to Jim Thornton that was good for 27 yards. Hieber tried to pass but was chased out of bounds and the score was now Ford City 22, Hampton 14 with 6:48 remaining in the game.Howell kicked off for Hampton. It was an on-side kick that hit a Ford City player and was recovered by Hampton onthe 50.Again the Talbots took to the air. Four passes put the ball on the Ford City 16. Hampton tried to run with the ball but was assessed a five-yard penalty. On next play Hieber passed to Dave Howell for a touchdown. Heiber passed to Thornton for two extra points and the score was tied at 22-all with 4:26 remaining.Hampton kicked off. Steve Popolis took the ball on the 35 and returned it nine yards to the 44. Ford City started a drive which ended when Thornton intercepted a Lorence pass and returned it to the Ford City 30 before being brought down byRussell. Hampton started passing again but on third play a pass was fumbled and Ford City recovered on their own 17. FordCity reached midfield before time ran out on them.Ford City will host Leechburg next Friday night.
