When it comes toclever sophisticated singing routines, they still are our number one choice. However, the other night at the r lamingo we caught a group of girls, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard and lead singer Diana Ross who are Internationally acclaimed as the Supremes. Never having heard their records or seen them on a stage, we have to make comparisons. Now we do.The Supremes are a more exciting team and attack a tune with a fierce, almost savagely passionate style. Maybe that’s why the girls are selling records in the millions all over the world and their record company. Motown in Detroit, is thinking of naming a boulevard outside their main offices after the ladies. And though we were completely unfamiliar with the Supremes’ hit tunes, they were haunting enough to be appreciated. Especially a ditty titled “Baby Love.” And now that we have seen the Supremes and thrilled at the unique singing style of lead singer, Diana Ross, we must admit that they’re to stay and not entirely dependent on a teen-age market only.Debuting here in Las Vegas with the Supremes isUrin Ui L it — a._____ _ # ff i _ t . •
