THE LIBRARYASSURED.THE PEOPLE YOTE TO ISSUE THE*]»OKD5Required to Purchase a Site for the Building Which Andrew Carnegie Will Erect. The citizens of Steubenville, yesterday, by a vote of 823 to 285, decided to issue bonds in the sum of $20,000 to secure a site^or the public library which Andrew Carnegie haa bo generously agreed to build here at a coat of $30,GOO.The vot8 polled was light, but thepeople, realizing the everlasting disgracewhich the city would suffer in rejectingMr. Carnegie’s gift, stirred themselves during the afternoon and brought out enough friends of the proposition to clinch the victory by more than a two-thirdg majority. There is little doubt but what a much larger vote could have been obtained in favor of the proposition had the votes been needed, but the people generally concluded that the bond propositionwas safe and did not go to the polls. The vote will be announced to the Council to-night and immediate legal steps for issuing bonds taken. The vote in the different wards was asfollows:For AgainstFirst ward. ...........100 30Second ward..............182 60Third ward..............167 51Fonrth ward..............186 42Fifth ward...............110 50Sixth ward............... 29 28Totals................823 285Majority ...........538Many sites are being talked of, but it is generally conceded that the library Bhouldand will be located as near central as possible and not at extreme ends of the city.
