In addition, the front of a new department store in Japan will contain a Rohlf window depicting the traditional Japanese wedding ceremony.What is the fascination stained glass continues to hold? Rohlf suggested the translucence of the medium and even more importantly, the element of light which acts as a partner and brings the colors to life. The appeal of light through glass was discovered long ago by ancient Romans as they filled windows with mosaics. It was brought to full height in the European cathedral in the Middle Ages, and made vastly popular during the Victorian era by craftsmen such as Louis Tiffany. Today it is being expressed in more contemporary ways by artists.St. CeceliaWorks of art have always been a means by which we interpret ourselves. It is interesting to look at the stained glass windows at the Church of the Holy Comforter with this slant in mind. The beauty of stained glass seems to have an amazing ability to dramatize this search for truth. They tell us of lives lived, lives lost, moments in history.. .and of who we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going.
