COACH DON McDONNALDDon McDonnald is starting his second year as head coach of the Garfield Purple Eagles. In his first year at the north-side school he compiled a 15-6 record.McDonnald was head coach at Salem for six years and at Clinton for two years before being named as assistant coach at - Columbus, his position before beingnamed to replace Willard Kehrt, now assistant principal at Garfield. This will be his tenth season as a head coach.He graduated from Fontanet in 1944 and attended Indiana State University, but was drafted before the first semester ended. Upon receiving his discharge he returned to Indiana State and starred for four years as a forward for the Sycamores. He was named to the Little All-America squod in 1950, the same year the Sycamores won the NAIA tourney.McDonnald is proud of the fact that he played in every varsity game during his four years at State.He received his B.5. from Indiana State and earned his M.S. at Indiana University.Don and his wife, Mary Joan, are the parents of three boys, Con 14, Lon 13 and Monte 9, and three girls, Dee Ann 11, Jamie Marie 6 and Kristy 3.
