Esther Short Marks 99th Birthday,v,Wy lt;w- ' .iphoto taken when resident of Rivers)Mrs. Esther Short, a former resident of Rivers, celbrated her 99th birthday, with her family and long time friend Ruth Collins, at the home of her daughter, Hazel Patmore in Brandonon Saturday, November 15th.Her daughter Clara Homibrook and husband Bill and her son, Lawrence Short and wife Lottie attended.. Daughter Muriel Westwood of Kelowna, B.C. was absent.Mrs. Short and husband George farmed for 35 years north of Rivers in the Pettapiece district, on the land now owned by their son Lawrence. They retired to Rivers in 1951. Mrs. Short was a member of the U.C.W., W.I., and Rebekah Lodge in Rivers. When she was 87, she moved to Fairview Home in Brandon. She loves people and enjoyed meeting new friends in Fairview. Some had been active as she was in the Women's Missionary Society, in which he had been treasurer of the Birtle Presbytry. She thinks fondly of her days in Rivers, and of her many dear friends there.
