Injuries, Graduation PlagueOutlook For CloverleafBy D’ARCY EGANLODI — The Cloverleaf Colts are getting ready for the basketball wars again, but it’s going to be a little tougher on coach Dick Anderson this year.Anderson, in his second‘ season at the helm of the Colt roundbail machine, will not only have to overcome one of the youngest squads in many years at Cloverleaf, will have to contend with a squad sporting more injuries than an emergency ward.“It’s going to be tougher than last year,” said Anderson, as he started putting the boys through their paces this week. “I’ve got a lot of young kids, and too many injuries. They’re a good bunch, though. They like to work.Noticeably gone from last year’s squad are the “M and M Twins,” high scoring Lonnie Morrison and speedy Bruce Martin, and the under-the-basket strong man, Jeff Welday. All three were GAZETTE All-County stars, and will be sorely missed this season.“We’re a better all-around club this season,” pointed out Anderson. “We don’t have the stars of last year, and don’t have one top scorer. We do have more mobility though.’There’s a lot of inexperience on squad this year,” noted Anderson. “V going to need a lot of help from juniors coming up. The opposition is tougher and stronger this year.Hurting the Colts this season will be the loss of Dale Richards, a 6-2 junior who broke his arm. Richards will be out for the year. Gone until at least Christmas vacation will be Greg Belle, a senior who saw limited action last year. Belle is plagued with a knee problem picked up during the football season. Also showing football knee pains are junior Ted Gordon, a 6-1 center prospect and Jeff Patterson, another junior Anderson is counting on. Both are able to work out and should be ready for the opening tip off.Mark Chrislip, a junior who played a bit of varsity ball late in the season last year, is troubled by mononucleosis, but isCeltics EdgeCavs By Fourpracticing and should also be in top shape for the season opener. We've got some good prospects to work with this season,” revealedAnderson, “but of all the points scored last season, the boys I've got coming back only scored 54 of them. Our shooting is something we'll have to work on.Although Anderson terms the year a rebuilding one, he’ll have to face some tough Chippewa Conference clubs.Orrville, Triway and West Holmes are expected to be extremely tough, with most of their starters returning.Brunswick and Wadsworth are also trying to rebuild after losing most of their players via the graduation route. The Colts wfThe Colts will have to face a tough Medina club this season, and also Norwayne, Northwestern and Buckeye, which boast a lot of power. Highland is also rebuilding, but should prove to be a thorn in Cloverleafs side again thisseason, after upsetting the Colts last year.Cloverleaf finished last season with a 10-9 mark, and had a 5-3 record in Chippewa Conference action, good enough for a second place finish.BOSTON HIPBTHp PYnflncion11A4-tM
