Anthony's*(nnllnufd From Pi|i I.State* «is in 1923 when five sitters arrived hart to start a com*I munity, Their number ha* grown to 28 in thia country, who take care of the tick at the Mother of Good Counsel Horn*, St, Louis, and St. Anthony's Infirmary, Alton.Each institution has beds to accommodate from 90 to 95 patients. In addition to chronic and medical cases, St. Anthony's Infirmary' takes care of contagious cases.The five sister* who came to Alton in 1924 to take over the property of the Sister* of Precious Blood, the Nazareth Home, and i found St. Anthony's Infirmary,? included Sister M. HildegardisJ Sister M. Hilda, Sister M. Darnels. Sister M Columbe and Sister M Gottharde.Of the original five only two remain at the infirmary. They are Sister M. Hiidegardis and Sister M. Gottharde. Sister Columbe, who was former superior at the Infirmary, and Sister Damela are at the Mother of Good Counsel Home in St. Louis, and Sister Hilda died in 1934.Infirmary EnlargedAmong early improvements was the addition of a wing in 1928 at the coat of 1100,0110 to provide an isolation department to care for contagious caws. In 1934 another win* was added at the coat ofj $16,000 to be used as a novitiate for the sisters. Other improvements have been made and equipment add»d from time to time until the Institution at the present time is one of the best equipped of its kind In this section of the country. IThe number of sisters at the In- I firmary has grown from five to 17 | in Alton, and there are 11 at the Mother of Good Counsel Home, St. Louis, The superior at St. I Anthony’s is Sister Agatha. 1
