Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Payne Highly Honored On Leaving for SouthMr. and Mrs. C. N. Payne have Sample, moderator; E. K. Thomp-just returned to their home orison, S. _S. Mr. and Mrs. Payne have been spending i great portion of their summer ir their old home at Titusville, Pa. where, just previous to their de parture for their winter in Sara sota a very brilliant reception was held for them at which their man old friends expressed their esteen: and friendship for the couple.From 7:30 till 9 o’clock one eve ning a short time ago the dozen: of old friends of Mr. and Mrs Payne were received in the beau tif ully decorated chapel of thlt; First Presbyterian Church in Tit usville, Pa., where they wished Mi and Mrs. Payne godspeed aiv happiness on their southern tri] and for their return to the nortl again next spring.The chapel was profusely decc rated with great baskets of chry santhemumus, jars of roses, grea' bowls of autumn flowers, and vase of individual buds.During the evening a beautifull; adorned memorial, bound in leathe* and embossed in gold was present ed to the guests of honor, com memorating the long and beautifu relationship of Mr. and Mrs. Payn in the church.The Memorial briefly stated Mi Payne’s activities in the church t be as follows:Fifty-nine years a member of th Presbyterian church; 4( years : member of the Titusville church 57 wars a Presbvterian elder; 4-yearsk an elder in the Titusvill church; 11 years superintendent o the South Side Sunday school; 12 years superintendent of the church Sunday school; 10 years member of the evangelistic committee of the General Assembly; three time: delegate from the Erie Presbytery to the General Assembly; delegate from the General Assembly to the tenth meeting of the Council of Churches throughou the. world holding the Presbyteriai system and held at Aberdeen, Scot land in 1913. In 1923 the Genera1 Assembly passed resolutions of ap preciation and respect to Mr. Paynlt; in recognition of his completior of 55 years as an active elder ir the church.It states that Mrs. Payne wa: for 59 years a member of thlt; Presbyterian church; lb years « member of the Titusville church* 12 years sunerintendent of the pri mary department of the South Side Sunday school; 25 years superin tendcnt of the primay department of the church Sunday school; 2( vears president of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary society of the local church.The Memorial concludes, “At they arc about to remove fronTitusville, the congregation of thlt; p'irst Presbyterian church of Titus ville, acknowledges its indebted ness and tenders its tribute of af fection and esteem.” The memori al is signed by the following mem hers of the session: Rev.
