John Lee named Barton board chairmanFor the TimesBarton alumnus John F. Lee was installed as chairman of the Barton College Board of Trustees at the board's fall meeting.Lee. who has served on the board for 26 years, will be filling the shoes of Gregg A. DeMar of Con-ecticut who served as chair from 2011-16.“I am grateful to the institution, its administra-fron and faculty for what they stand for; it will be an honor to serve in any capacity that is asked of me.” said Lee.Barton President Douglas Searcy described Lee as a proven leader with a keen business acumen and a visionary perspective for his alma mater.“John Lee’s election as our new chair of the Barton College Board of Trustees is a testament of the board's confidence in the leadership of this distinguished trusiee who has demonstrated a steadfast commitment and dedication to Barton College for the }ast 26 years,” said SearcyDuring Lee’s tenure on the board, he has served as a member of the financeand trusteeship committees. and as chairman of the Student Affairs Committee. He also has served as a member of the Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee.College officials said Lee and his wife Lynn, who is also a Barton alumna, have devoted a lot of their time, energy and financial resources, most recently supporting the Lee entrance. which opens onto the crescent dnve of thecampus' recently constructed west entrance.I he Lees also are members of the Barton Society, the Torchbearers Society, the1 Heritage Society and the Bell Society.“The relationships with the people we have met during our years with the college have been rewarding and enriching for Lynn and me. Lee said. “Our association with the college is something we cherish. We appreciate the mission of the college and the greatness it holds in the lives of our students, yesterday, today and tomorrow'Past positions in the communitv include membership on the Greenfield School Board of Trustees. Salvation Army Boys Club Council, Wilson County Heart Association and Wilsons First Baptist Church Board of Deacon. Currently. Lee serves as a board member of the N.C. Automobile Dealers Association, and he is on the Wilson Board of Directors for Southern Bank In January 2017, he will assume the chairmanship of the Board of T rustees of Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina, wherehe has been a board member for four years.As chair of Lee Motor Group. Inc. in Wilson. Lee oversees the management of automobile dealerships in four states, one of which is Lee Ford Lincoln in Wilson, a dealership in continuous operation since 1953. Other dealerships in Wilson include Lee Nissan and Lee Chry s-ler Dodge Jeep Ram.Lee and hi.s wife, Lvnn, live in Nash County w ith their 11-vear-old daughter. Luisa. The Lees are members of the First Baptist Church of Wilson.
