Young Folk Singers Give Up Careers To Enter Church WorkNASHVILLE CUP) — A rising young: Nashville singer, PatBoone, and Shirley Foley, daughter of Red Foley, famous folk music star, embarked today as man and wife to give their “devoted service to God.” Both are 19.The marriage of the two well-known Nashvillians was revealed Saturday night at Frar.klin, Tenn., where Boone had been serving as song leader In a Church of Christ revival. He disclosed at that service he had decided to become a minister.Shirley is enrolled as a nursing student at the Mid-State Baptist Hospital here, and he is a sophomore at David Lipscomb College.In announcing his decision, the young singer, a three-time winner on the Ted Mack national amateur show, said: 4,I guess I won’t be able to give as much time to my singing as I have in the past. Both Shirley and I will dedicate our lives to the work of the church when we finish school three years, from now.Both Pat and Shirley had been considered as very promising in tthe entertainment world, and both had appeared before a number of Nashville audiences this past summer.
