Pioneer Couple Marks 50 Years Married; Born HereA ‘festive occasion was the golden ' wedding anniversary reception hon* oring Mr. and Mrs. Newell Beaty, j popular pioneer residents, held re-| cently at the home of their son andMr. and Mrs. Newell Beatydaughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Beaty. 222S Nelson street, from2 to 9 p. m.The bride and bridegroom of half a century ago presided, receiving the felicitations of scores of relatives and friends.A wedding cake, prepared by the hostess and topped by a miniature ; ; bride and bridegroom, was served during the afternoon and evening. Mrs. Beaty was assisted by her sonand his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Kennel Shelton. Also assisting were Mrs May Hooper and Mrs. Cleo Cross, slaters of the “bride and Airs. Catherine Dodenhoff. her twin sister.On November 4, 1896. Miss Carrie Tilley became the bride of Newel BeatV at her parents’ mountain home. The service was read by Judge J. W. Summer. Mr. and Mrs. Beaty, both natives of Kern county, were born near Kernville and with the exception of five years, ha\ e spent their entire lives in this community. Their parents were among the pioneers of the county. ea» h having crossed the plains by ox teams, the Tilleys from Illinois and the Beatys from Missouri.The first year of their married life was spent in the booming mining town of Randsburg. where the f.t mous Rand and Ye-ilow Aster mines had just been placed in operation.Three children. Pemberton T Beaty, Zora E. Beaty and Melvin Beaty were born to the union; Melvin Beaty is the sole survivor.For 20 years Mr. and Mrs. Beaty were engaged in the stock raising in-I dustry near Kernville, living on the Fay ranch, a familiar old landmark. As an auxiliary to their cattle business they operated a tourist pack station, patronized by sportsmen from all parts of the state.In 1936 they disposed of their picturesque mountain holdings and took up their residence in Bakers-I field. |
