Warriors DefeatDiamond, 66-39Tom Rawlings and Bob Todd combined for 30 points here Friday night in leading Jim Wyatt’s McAuley Regional high schol Warriors to a 66*39 Little Eight Conference victory over Diamond’s Wildcats.The victory was the Warriors second straight in conference play and fourth straight over all. The Wildcats are now 1-1 in league play.Rawlings, a 6*5 center, copped scoring honors with 16 points on seven fielders and two charity shots. Rawlings also hauled in 15 rebounds for the Warriors. Todd, a 6-0 forward, was close behind with 14 points on seven fielders. Todd also had seven rebounds. Chuck Roderique, a 6-2 guard, followed with 12 tallies.Johnny Jeans, a 6-1 center, paced his Diamond mates with nine points on one fielder and seven free throws. Mike Rentfro, a 6^0 forward, added seven tallies.McAuley jumped to a six-point lead at the outset on fielders by Rawlings and Todd and two charity shots by Bill Gcry, a 6-3 forward, before the Wildcats opened their scoring on a free throw by Rentfro.Roderique widened the marginto seven points on a fielder,before Diamond started whittlingaway at their lead, Fielders by Mike Thomas and John Dipper pulled Diamond within five points, 10-5, with less than three minutes remaining.Wyatt then sent his defensive squad in with two minutes left. The Warriors widened the gap to nine points, 14-5, on a fielder by Horace Williams and two charity shots by Dave Slaughter, before Diamond struck for five straight points to cut the lead to 14-10 at the end of the first period.The Wildcats of Rod Reid pulled within two points on two charity throws by Jeans, before McAuley started its move.
