Mr. and Mrs. Jim Willispartment 18 years before he retired.Mrs. Whitson was employed at Raveill True Value Hardware for 12 years before she retired.They are members of the Waldo Avenue Baptist Church.WillisJim and Mary Willis, 712 E. Gudgell St., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception following the Sunday worship service at the First Presbyterian Church, Independence.Hosts for the celebration will be their children, James A. and Diane Willis, Glendale, Mo., Dannie Johnson, San Diego, Calif., and Mary K. German, Independence.Mr. and Mrs. Willis have fivegrandchildren.They were married Nov. 7, 1940, in Yuma, Ariz., and are lifetime residents of Independence.Mr. Willis was an instructor with TWA Airlines before he retired in 1980. He was active in Scouting and youth leadership.Mrs. Willis was a commercial illustrator before she retired.They are members of the First Presbyterian Church, where Mr. Willis is an elder. They were advisers for the Senior High Fellowship group at the church for 45 years.
