She was brought to this state when she was but a few month's old. At about the age of twenty she was united with the llopo-well Baptist church near Holton. Indiana, where she retained her membership until her death.In the fall of 1866 she was married to James McNew who resided In the same community. Thero was born to this union ten children of whom three tons and three daughters are living and three sonB and one daughter is dead. .She passed out of this life June 11. 1917, being 71 years, 7 months and three days old.Only those who passed through the war and the reconstruction period ran know of the hardships that were on. But their faithfulness has brought about a better day.Her relatives and friends know I hatdeahers was a beautiful Christian char- g acter. She loved he* churcii end iu*r family.Though her Illness was of long duration through it all the wa* cheerful and patient and when the hour for her departure came, she peacefully and quietly went to receive her “Crown of Righteousness which tr.c Lord of the Righteous Judge gives to all who have. loved his appearing. ’Just three months and four days following the death of his good wife Mary Elisabeth, James McNew laid aside this earthly life and passed cut into the great beyond.He was born in Ripley county. Indiana, May 14. 1845. About 1S64 during the civil war he served a term in the army of the Union. These men who served our nation so well In that great crisis are dropping out one by one.As shown by the obituary of his wife ho was married to Mary Elisabeth Conover In 1866 and was the father of ten children, six of whom are living. These together with ouc brother, three sisters, aud seventeen grandchildren survive him.He died September. 15. 1917 a Hie age of 72 years, 4 months. Mid 2 days. Uncle Jim as many of us called him. lived all of his life as o farmeg.ln Ripley county except for his term as a soldier. He was a man who alwayj attended to his own huelucss «»»d took great pride In being and doing wbat he was anddld.lt without any outward manifestation.* He wag e’enn and upright In his habits and In his death.
