Mrs. Nicholas Ladig was the victim ' of a complete surprise Saturday night j which was given in honor of her birth ; day anniversary. Saturday was her | anniversary and a novel plan had been taken to surprise her. She had been an intended victim on former occasions but had always learned of the scheme before it was carried out. This year a novel plan was followed and when the crowd came she had retired. On the Saturday night before a small crowd gathered and gave what was supposed to be a party for her. It was given out that a dance at Mr. Johnson’s would be given the following Saturday night so the children had gathered one week earlier to assure their mother that they had not forgotten her. The first party was only a scheme to keep the real occasion a secret. Mrs. Ladig was even urged to attend the Johnson party but she was tired and retired early. Mr. Ladig said he would go for a while and left tlie house ostensibly for that purpose. In a few minutes lie returned, however, and with him was one of the livliest crowds that ever assembled at the Ladig home. Mrs. Ladig was hustled out of bed and in the hours that followed she forgot that she ever was tired. Twenty-live guests made things lively and the fun lasted until a late hour. Plenty of good things to eat were found and everybody was happy. A line rocker was presented to Mrs. Ladig and in accepting the present she assured her friends that she would admit that she could be surprised, and that she would long remember them for the honor which they bestowed upon her.
