Frederick Wood Sr. ]LENOX — Frederick Wood ! Sr., 65, former resident here, died Friday morning in Clearwater, Fla. A retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander with 30 years’ service, he was employed ] at the GE in Pittsfield until ] I960, when he moved to Clear- ] water. ]Cmdr. Wood spent 27 of his : years with the Navy on active 1 duty, including 22 years in submarine duty. During World War II, he served on the only U.S. submarine credited with sinking a German submarine.While in I^enox, Cmdr. Wood and his family lived at Scher-merhorn Park. He was a member of the Ixnox Kiwanis Club.He leaves his wife, the former Alice Ferry; two sons. Frederick Jr. of Lee and William J. of Pittsfield: a daughter. Mrs.Ronald Halpin of Lenox; two sisters, Mrs. Forrest Houser of Lenox and Mrs. John Coughlin of Fall River; and nine grandchildren. iRurial will be in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery.
