TWENTY-FIVE N YEARS RECORD I GROCERY FIRMe _r McDonald and Forman Celebrated Lengthy Business s Career in Cityr,5.A quarter of a century in the grocery trade in this city is the proud record of J. F. McDonald of McDonald and Forman, long a strong factor in the retail business of Brandon. Celebrating 25 years of continuous service to the community, the firm has just concluded a birthday week in which congratulations have poured in from all parts of the city and district. Hundreds of persons took advantage of an invitation to personally visit the store and share in the birthday cake and celebration.It was in November of 1911 that J. F. McDonald and James Forman decided to form a grocery partnership. Both men had served with local firms previously, Mr. McDonald having some seven years experience. The new partners bought the stock and store at Sixth street and Rosser avenue, then owned by Gordon Bennett. After a year and a half at the stand, the McDonald and Forman business moved to 829 Princess avenue across from the city hall, a site they have occti- j pied continuously since then. Mr * Forman went overseas and Mr. Me I 21 Donald purchased his interest in the* t j business, but following the war Mr. Forman returned and was again taken into the firm. About nine years agoi Mr. Forman retired from the business and Mr. McDonald has since I | carried on the organization.Business Expanded The store has grown with the times, j Business expanded and two buildings | were necessary to house the stock j which originally required only one.| Old fixtures gradually disappeared as | the trend of business required up-to-date and modern equipment. Today ! the store is modern in every way. an I electric refrigeration plant being ! part of it. Twice as large a stock is | carried now, and not the least of the firm’s standing is due to the fine I contact it has with the country trade While his business has demanded attention continuously, Mr. McDon-I aid has found time to devote to community activities of a valued nature.; He was for six years the president of l the Retail Merchants’ association; he ! served on the council of the board of j trade; he is president of the hoy {scout association and chairman of the board of management of First Presbyterian church.
