Uaderwood, at the home of his parents* Mr* and Mrs. Darius Underwood, who live about a mile east of this city* He had been sick about three weeks with typhoid-malaria and all that medical skill could do was done, but his life was in the hands of a higher power.John L. Underwood was born Peb. 20, 1872, in Iroquois county, Illipois. When about fourteen years old he oved with his parents to Whiteside county^_jBe is _ a, .graduate .of the-Whiteside county schools and had just graduated from the Sterling Business College when he became sick. He unrited while very young with the Methodist church of this city, and prored to be a true/ upright Christian and lived in the fear of God. , He was a_ fine young man, of excellent habits and had a bright future before him.Daring the time that he hnB livedhere he has made hundreds of friends who-bow their Jbeads in grief in memory of their friend and associate. His death* was calm and peaceful, as if he calmly went to sleep, unconscious of the fact that he was being taken from this world of trouble to the glories of the world above.Besides his father and mother, three brothers and three sisters are left to mourn his loss. They are Frank of this city, Emery and Burton of Chicago and Ella, Ester and Ida. The last named being now seriously ill of malarial fever in Chicago, has not been notified of her brother’s death.The funeral will occur Sunday afternoon, the services to be held at the house at 2:30 o’clock, conducted by Rev. W. H. Pierce. The sympathy of the neighborhood is extended to the grief stricken family.
