Vacationers HawaiiSpecialist 4 and Mrs. Carl Silvers recently enjoyed a vacation in Hawaii when Mrs. Silvers flew there, to join her husband who was on a rest and recuperation leave from Vietnam. Specialist Silvers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Silvers of Gilbert, Ariz., resided in Joplin until a year and a half ago. He is the grandson of Mrs. Ellen Pondextra of Carthage. During his tour of duty in Vietnam he has received two medals, including the Purple Heart. He is crew chief and door gunner on a medical evacuation helicopter. He will return to the United States in June. Following their vacation in Hawaii, Mrs. Silvers returned to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Tew of Slocomb, Ala., where she will await the birth of their first child in January.
