St. Jean BaptisteBarbara Godard 758-3355Mission Sunday celebrated at the Roman Catholic ChurchAt both masses Sunday, October 23rd, special services were held to bring the message about the mission Held. Two missionaries were portrayed, Brother Lionel Godard, son of Mr and Mrs Cyprien Godard and Gactan Ayotte, son of Mr and Mrs Rhea! Ayotte. Lionel has been in Tanzania, Last Africa for over 15 years and will be home in 1984 on furlough. Gaetan left early this year to Africa for a two year mission assignment with his uncle Brother Brcmau of Ste Agathe. They arc both with the order “The White Fathers of Africa.”Our thoughts and prayers are for Lionel and Gaetan as they fulfill their work with the people of Africa.Many parishioners were involved in canvasing door to door for funds to send to the two missionaries. A big bouquet goes out to them all and it is very evident that people do care about others by the donations5 PIONNIIthat came in. Both missionaries will be forever grateful for your support.The Catholic Womens League held two successful events recently in which funds were collected for “The institute for The Blind - sum of $173.57 and after both masses October 16th, baking was sold in the church basement which netted them $302.50. It was a combined effort on everyone’s part to have given on both occasions. A big bouquet to the members of the League for their efforts on these two events.75th birthdayHappy birthday to my father-in-law, Cyprien Godard, who celebrated his 75th birthday October 27th. Many more years of continued good health to him as lie is such an active person.Many people in our town are down with the flu bug, others are hospitalized, so to you all, gel well soon and may you continue to be better for the winter months ahead. I believe the coldweather should kill all the germs that are present in our environment.The Red Cross Branch of St. Jean Baptiste is very grateful for the 153 donors who showed up at the blood donor clinic Thursday, October 27th. A note of gratitude to all the volunteers who helped make the clinic a success.I hope and pray that you all take a few moments November lllh, Remembrance Day, to think of our fallen soldiers from the previous wars, who believed in a cause, and that was to keep our country free”. We are fortunate to live in a great country such as Canada. We pray that our freedom will not be taken from us like other parts of the world.Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Michel Sabourin who were married October 22nd in Winnipeg. To this young couple go our best wishes for many years of wedded bliss.Emile and Barbara GodardSilver anniversaryEmile and Barbara Godard Saturday, September 24th, surrounded by family, relatives and friends was a great day for this reporter and my husband, as it was the day we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary (actual day of anniversary was Sept. 20). It all began with a mass of Thanksgiving in the Si. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, presided by Father Gilles Primeau (“White Fathers of Africa”, who is the Superior at the head office in St, Boniface)The children participated at the mass with Douglas Godard and Claude Dumontier (son-in-law) altar boys, readings by our three daughters Denise Dumontier, Lorraine, Suzanne and daughter-in-law Marsha, Our niece Evelyn Dupuis was in charge of the music which was chosen by Sister Helene Rousseau, (Sister Superior at the St. Jean Baptiste conve'ht).Supper and program followed at the Club des Pionniers with Mrs Jeannine Ayotte catering a most delicious meal to 60 guests. Displays were set up of our wedding book of 25 years ago - wedding cards, picture, wedding dress and the junior bridesmaids’ headpieces and arm pieces. The guests signed the anniversary book and took their places for a smorgasborg supper.Master of Ceremonies was our only son Douglas w ho called on Suzanne (our youngest daughter) to welcome everyone present, then he introduced the head table consisting of the original bridal party: Linda Rourke - junior bridesmaid from Bracebridge, Ontario, Elaine Tuckey Landry - junior 1 bridesmaid from Terrace. B.C.,Marlyn Tucky Murdick, maid of honour from Dryden, Ontario, Emile and Barbara Godard, Roland Dupuis, best-man, from Winnipeg, Arnold Bruetsch - representing Emile’s brother Lionel Godard, a bestman, who i$ a missionary in Tanzania, East Africa and was unable to attend the anniversary. Arnold is from Waldorf, Ontario, Jean Brignall Bruetsch - bridesmaid, wife of Arnold and also from Waldorf, Ontario, Wilbert Tuckey - usher, from Dryden, Ontario, Mr and Mrs James Tuckey, my parents from Oxdrift, Ontario, Mr and Mrs Cyprien, Godard, Emile’s parents, from St. Jean Baptiste,Douglas introduced Roiand Dupuis’ wife Ruth and Father Gilles Primeau.Then he called on Lorraine, our second daughter to say “Grace” which was very fining for this dayWe proceeded to have the meal followed by a toast to us by our son Douglas, an appropriate speech by our oldest daughter Denise and then I spoke on behalf of Emile and myself, we cut the anniversary cake and opened the beautiful gifts and cards to which Emile responded with a speech. It will be a day we will cherish forever as it was a great milestone in our its es. I hope you all in the readership area reach your 25th anniversary and celebrate it with great enjoyment that we did.Many people attended from great distances to share the special day and we are ever grateful. We received many greetings from numerous people. To you all. our family and relatives, we are grateful for the thoughtfulness to share it with us on our anniversary.
