experimentCellular telephones made in Leth* bridge are a key part of a pilot project in Montreal.NovAtel Com muni cations Lid. is the exclusive provider of cellular telephones to the Safeway Chex-Vous pilot project, which aids impaired drivers by allowing them to call cellular phone-equipped cars which offer drive-home service.NovAtel spokesman Bob Belteridge said Friday eight units are involved in the pilot project, which the company is treating as a market survey.“We have no idea of the total number that will be needed. As you can imagine, the service will be somewhat busier at Christmas than at other times of the year,” he said.Betteridge said he expects the service anee.to expand in Montreal, as well as toother Canadian cities.The project is designed to keep drunk drivers off the streets, and Del Uppert, NovAtelrs president, said it is “an important program that promotes pub-f lie safety.”NovAtel, based in Calgary, is the only Canadian developer and manufacturer of cellular telephones.
