The occasion of this the best of all feasts was the closing of Miss Stella Hale’s school at Oakland. It was gotten up by the patrons and trustees of the school as a token of appreciation of the work of both the teacher and her pupils. The only disap pointing feature about it was that so many of the children were busy in the field, and therefore could not enjoy the picnic. Among those that were there, besides the hostess, her father, and sisters, were J. W. Balen tine and family, J. M. Si vley and wife, J. P. Sivley and family, Lin Sivley and family, John Sivley Sr. and family, John Siv ley Jr. and family, J. Lee Coop erand family, Mr. and Mrs Picket, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver Mr. Wheeler and family, Mr Charley Thompson and child ren, J. M. Smiley, and Mrs Johnson. The toothpicks were handed Charley Thompson; but he said “I’ll see you later,” and went on eating fish. When all had quit eating for want of capacity, the baskets were re filled, and the men gath ered in groups to talk politics, tell war incidents etc., while the ladies and children formed a big circle and gossiped about housekeeping, schools and every thing else but the Comet.Things took on a lively and active turn when Lin Sivley as by accident dropied a handkerchief behind one of the children;' for suddenly there started up a' real old fashioned game of pot,” in whichage, especially, when thd'heart is kept young by such neighbor iy gatherings asjthe Oaklanc Annual Fish Fry.To illustrate the gentle, poaco ful bearing of tbe folss we need but mention the fact that a sum mer tanager, a bird of a shyetc. and I disposition, satswung close to the ground near tho table.Besides the bigAs the crowd finally broke up, no donbt it was inevery body’s heart that all may live to have the meeting over in1911.
