Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Thurman, will be honored at an open house Wednesday, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in 'the Blaekfoot LDS Second Ward in observance of their golden wedding amniversary.Children of the couple will host the event to which all friends and relatives are invited. They request no gifts.Thurman was born in Star Valtev, Wyo., to Edward and Annie Thurman. He came to Firth where he operated a cheese factory m 1924-1925.The bride of 50 years ago, the former Etva Bankhead, was born in Hyrum, Utah, to George and Agnes Bankhead. The family moved to Thomas in 1918. She received her early schooling in Thomas, attended South Cache High School in Utah, and Blaekfoot High School.The couple was married June4,1926, in Blaekfoot. They wentto Star Valley* where heoperated a creamery atGeneva, just out of Montpelier.He attended a barber school inSalt Lake Citv and then bar-%bered in Afton, Wyo., and ranched in Grover, Wyo. They returned to Blaekfoot 35 years ago. He has barbered in Rlaek-foot 35 years and is still owner and operator of the Fashion Barber Shop here.They are parents of five children: Mrs. Fred (Shirley) Woodland* Von Thurman and Ron Thurman, al! of Blaekfoot; Mrs. Don (Georgia) Argyle, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Dave (Karen) Badtcn, Chub-buck.♦ They also have 17 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. The couple recently enjoyed an 11-day lour to Hawaii where they visited the four islands. They were given many honors in conjunction with the celebration of the 50th Jubilee for the 50th State and their 50th anniversary. The 88-year-old mother of Don Hoe, famous Hawaiian singer, sang .'‘The Hawaiian Wedding Song” and dedicated it to the Thurmans at the Polynesian Center. On a river boat ride, four Hawaiian singers dedicated 'their selections all the way up (the river to the annivarsary couple. Eddie Kekaula, a noted Hawaiian singer, dedicated a song to the Thurmans inMr. and Mrs. Elmer Thurman{Merged 3 926 'n BlocMooUHonolulu. In addition, they were honored with hotel rooms and meals during Their stay in Hawaii.Mrs. Thurman was employed by the local Penney store here for 25 years. She also worked for FayVHat and Gown, Seweiety Fabric and a short while, for Jay’s Drug. Both have been active in the LDS Church in ward and stake positions.Thurman has three brothers and four sisters: MelvinThurman, Grover, Wyo.; Dean Thurman and Milton Thurman, both of Blaekfoot, Mrs. Elmer (Delora) Rosdhal, Nampa; Mrs. Ralph (Elgin) Stinson* Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Elmer (Norma) Ward and Mrs. Leslie (Eva) Drainey* both of Kaysville, Ulah.Mrs. Thurman has a brother and a sister, Lyle Bankhead and Mrs. Clark (Lorraine) Turner, both of Blaekfoot.
