DeSarro Wins At StaffordBy MIKE ADASKAVEG of the JI StaffSTAFFORD — Fred DeSarro of Hope Valley, R.I. became the fourth different modified driver in four weeks to w in a feature at Stafford Speedway when he out-dueled Ron Bouchard and Carl “Bugsy Stevens at the finish line Friday night.DeSarro went to the front after passing early leaders Brian Ross and Ken Bouchard around the 10-circuit mark. The race ran unstop until the 22nd lap, when the caution was flown for the feature’s only crash.On Lap 22 Roland LaPierre, Jr. and Dale Holdridge tangled coming out of the second turn. Neither car was seriously damaged. The restart offered a chance for other drivers to challenge DeSarro’s lead. Bouchard and Stevens, both feature winners at Stafford this year, worked their way through traffic to get within striking distance of DeSarro with five laps to go.DeSarro managed to stay ahead in the bumper to bumper race. On his back bumper were Bouchard and Stevens, each trying to secure second position. On the last lap, Bouchard grabbed second by a wheel as he went way outside Stevens when the checkered flag flew.DeSarro, the reigning track champion, was winless this year at Stafford. The veteran ace has won five races at Thompson Speedway this season.Finishing fourth was Ross, who was followed by Ed Flemke, Ken Bouchard, Dick Case, Stan Greger, Ray Miller and Gene Bergin.In the limited sportsman division, young Tom Rosati of Agawam, Mass. scored his second feature win of the year. Sixteen year old Rosati, a former go-carting champion, sur-vived a pileup which resulted in sheet metal damage to his racer, and then battled John Falconi in the waning moments of the race to gain the lead.l^ast week's sportsman feature winner, Paul Cianci, brought out the first caution of the feature when he crashed into a backstretch light pole. He was not injured. Two laps later, a five car pileup resulted in the elimination of a number of cars, including strong running Rick Smith of Manchester. Second and third in the feature went to Falconi and Gary Stavens.Dave Fiske won the street stock feature. Fred McBriarty and Richard Turcotte followed him across the finish line.
